Is that anything new? | |

| A necktie wrapped in bark Held under glass until the guests arrive When the seats are warm The party is over
The drive home is spent Silence pressed against pains Drops occupy the passengers The play of light made prism
Prisoners jump suites pressed The occasion calls for forecasts The neighbors wish they were here I've seen you here before
I dropped a penny under the counter We could stay like this all day My elbows pressed against I take it all back
If you keep running into that wall Your prize might show up Don't lay down anymore We have to understand
The sense we seek It finds us asleep at the wheel We fog the glass in overdrive The lost boys passover
I drip A maze suprises I trip A turn appears
Then Martin touched down The suite cases rained We slapped five Do those count as pin stripes?
A fight breaks out in there I wondered what you thought Who was looking anyway Then we're left here, again
A trim off the top Why can't we stop
Sympathy needs a job Empathy knows how it goes Apathy heard it all Atrophy can wait
So this zero gravity thing It's still free right? You never asked
Lack of trying Easy to say

My sister always loved me That's why she screamed My sister always loved me That's why she came back My sister always loved me She let it all fall away My sister always loved me That's when her face is red My sister always loved me Her hands never left the room My sister always loved me I forgot her birthday again My sister always loved me They never let them see her My sister always loved me Her son runs and runs and runs
A Satellite can stop on a dime A forgiving butcher cuts clean Holidays with gifts never go unnoticed A Child needs a porch Where else would all the treasure go? There's a certain magic to illusion I saw a rabbit leave through the Library ceiling "It's gone" said the kid with downs, That's all we needed to know, That's all that needed saying, A piece of me runs from that honesty. A clean orbit is my dream job Slipping through windows in the sky Slicing the absence of air with "beepbeepbeep" The wrapping paper is on the floor, The space shuttle that goes when you pull it back, it's lost under the tree, right back there next to the outlet She wasn't trying to burn the house down, She just wanted to see if the matches could melt the paint The strike she received was out of love We took the fire below the floors after that

There's an authority figure starring right past my shoulder It needs to be looked up to to be seen I can hear his uniform, it's all encompassing I hope that's a blade on my back
There's a little boy who hides, throws rocks, and tells jokes He's left handed but brushes with his right He knows how to pray I follow him where he goes
There's a thin man huddled on the dirt He wishes they would just go He wants to scan the plain for more cracks He spits on dust and lets it sink in

| Holding tight to a paragraph of light Monsters under the piles of matresses Matters of fact stacked like corpses On the holidays we keep the presence Our uncles called from long distances The bulldozers cleared the way Air fresheners brought back baked cookies The new car smell ran for mayor yesterday On top of it all, on top of it all A beaming face stood out We took notice, took a walk Theres a caravan with a stamp on it Don't get in line, it's our fame, our stakes are low The bar lowers from the top of the rainbow A dream interupts all the realty A fashion show steels our attention Man, I had a wish around here somewhere
As I turn my favorite phantom into my number one fan I watch the sun dip below the field of amber grain I catch a glimpse of the things he had hoped I would invent The steam driving us into the future, the dream falling over the furniture These darkening highway trees brace for our impact We hold back, giving space to the sky above
The lying down is the dying crowd A new bone in the pavement gleams It's the most dangerous thing around We could have sworn, we could have sworn We should have done all the above

| It's been a looong while since I updated on my alphabetical adventure through my musical library. I have been diligent, just not posting. So many albums have past, I'll just give a short list. Starting with: Outkast, Aquemini; I'm still mulling this one. Willie Williams, Armagideon Time; I looooove this track. Enjoy!M.I.A., Arular; This is one of those albums that seems to come from such a pure place, it makes me happy everytime I listen to it. Van Morrison, Astral Weeks; One of the three greatest albums ever recorded. Subjectively. The Flaming Lips, At War With The Mystics; not as good as I want it to be. Cloud Cult, Aurora Borealis; I listened to this about four times to honestly rate it, I love it! Sufjan Stevens, The Avalanche; This is slated as a collection of outtakes and extras from the Illinois album, that's what it sounds like. Awesome Record, Grat Songs, Tim and Eric; So great, so fun. That wrapped up the A's. Today I went through The Beatles White Album. Listening to it with the intension of rating it's songs brought me a great many suprises, songs that I had coasted over in the past, now glowing and wonderful. So glad I did this. | |

| I can't do it. Amazing Grace is too much to rate. I can't tell if it's okay or briliant. Spiritualized is great, I really like them, but this one's a different animal. "This Little Life of Mine" is deffinitely a keeper.
Moving on to some very familiar territory, Amethyst Rock Star by Saul Williams. I'm thinking I might of overplayed this one. The chewing tinfoil beats and vocal delivery that used to move me, are feeling a bit tired now. I guess I've grown. I still Love "Wine".
Radiohead's Amnesiac remains one of my favorite albums. It came into my life the same year I was introduced to Modest Mouse, Saul Williams, and Jeff Buckley. Also that year, Tool's Lateralus came out, one of my all time favorites. It was tough company, but Radiohead was aiming high, and re-invented their own re-invention by way of Kid A courtesy of OK Computer. Amnesiac came so soon after Kid A, I didn't know how they could keep up the momentum. But songs like "Pyramid Song" and "You and Whose Army?" slaid me then, slay me now, and will lay my children to waste.
Josh Ritter is new to me, and some of his stuff I really like. The Animal Years includes my favorite track by the man, "Girl in the War" goes to great places. He comes off a little limited to me, but maybe that's the point. When he stretches himself out, great things happen though.
Another Christmas Song is a free single Stephen Colbert put out for free on iTunes to promote his Xmas special that I never saw. This song reminds me of this fact.

| So sometimes, less is more. That's what I've found with Aceyalone's All Balls Don't Bounce. It's just too much music. It's a generally good album, with way too many remixes at the end. I just wonder if this EPish stuff at the end was promotional or part of the plan all along. A lot of these remixes are absolutely fantastic (up to 4 stars), and would be welcome in a mix type situation, but this album by album thing has me more sensitive to the flow of playlists. This album woke me up to the fact that "the album" is not at the center of everyone's universe, sometimes a collection of singles is welcome, "I just put it on shuffle" is a mindset most rampant in our days of librarys in-pocket. I like to hit shuffle, but some recent albums-Decemberists, I'm looking at you-have made me realize how incredible it is when a group dares to tell a complete story over the course of an album, not neccessarily a concept album, but just a consistent sentiment. It's a waning breed, I'm afraid.
Next up in the alphabet is Yeasayer with All Hour Cymbals. Whoa, wow, man. This one is a doozy. It's an incredibly dense piece of music, and I was suprised (thanks again to the star system) how much of the music I had not really paid attention to. There were entire tracks I couldn't rightly remember. I listened to this album a couple of times before I started rating things. It's great, you just don't know what side of the world they're going to take you to from track to track, sometimes a few at once.
So, I was unable to post yesterday, so I went ahead and kept playing.
Alligator by The National is a favorite, but I was still suprised at how high I was rating a majority of the songs, I think I had two three star songs, that's a "Like it" on the Netflix scale. But it was either "Really like" or "Loved it" for the rest. The thing about those two ratings, there'only one distinction between the two for me, and that's an either intangible element or very specific sentiment that takes something over to love. But I guess that goes for most things. "I think I'm like Tennessee Williams, I wait for the click, but it never kicks in", I have no idea what it means, but it gives me this emotional jolt everytime I hear it, and I end up singing it in a loop for days, that's love. Anyway, great f'ing album.
The Decemberists have been busy this year, and their three Always the Bridesmaid EPs are something to be reckoned with, these tracks aren't as grandeous as most of the other Decemberist tracks I love, and I think that has to do with the shortness of context on the EP format, like I said earlier, The Decemberists make albums, and great ones at that. So, not being able to build into each other, these tracks stand alone, but they stand tall. Check them out please. By the way, The Decemberists new album, The Hazards of Love have made going through my iPod very difficult, I spent most of the weekend with it on repeat. Now that's an album!
I also listened to Spiritualized's Amazing Grace, but I'm still not ready for it. I'll keep working at it. I have to break the membrane!
Can we talk about that for a minute?
What an incredible, and rare event it is when you listen to an album, know you kinda sort of like it in some way, but can't quite bring yourself to articulate or fully commit an endorsement. Then one day, your sitting there, and you happen to listen to an instrument or follow the flow of the vocals, or anyother element that just makes then entire thing click. I think that's happening here with Spiritualized, it's all a fuzz in my brain, a warm and fuzzy fuzz, but one I can't quite digest yet. I pray for enzymes.

| My second foray into my ipod's systematic rediscovery continues with Aceyalone's, Accepted Ecclectic. This album, I just got, but all the high points of the album were part of a Ace-one intro. disc. That was eight years ago, and the tracks still give me the shivers. A lot of five-star tracks in this one.
It looks like i'm turning this into a two-album-per-entry thing, which works for me. It makes for interesting bed fellows. And this bed-fellowship deffinitely includes sodomy somewhere between the lines.
Tool's AEnima is a lovely piece of art that I enjoy slowly walking all the way around, I'll never get tired of it, definitely feel myself aging past it, but it's virtues are striking. It's an amazing mix of looseness and technical mastery. I can't get over it. So many stinking/smelly classics on this one.
I almost put up a "next up:________" portion to this post, but I think that would spoil the suprise for both of us.

| Hi, so here I go.
My listening to AR Rehman's greatest hits album proved something to me. First it proved that this is an awesome idea, and second it made me realize that AR Rehman is the king of the breakdown. He'll take one of his okay tracks, then break it down in the middle, and upgrade it to awesome!
I also listened to Abbey Road after that. It was a strange experience, listening to The Beatles with the intention of rating each individual song, I like to hear their work in albums rather than individual trakcs, and this album makes it tougher due to all the reprisals and call-backs that it does. I get the feeling that some of these tracks were designed to mess with the other members of the band, knowing that they were never in the same room together while it was being produced, and were on the worst or speaking terms, I wouldn't put it past them. One song has Spain spanish right in the middle of it, with the rest of the group backing up those verses, it made me smile to think of Paul McCartney throwint that into the mix just so that the other guys would have to go through countless takes of trying to get their "corathones" correct.
Oh, I never realized how many short-form tracks on that album either. The back half is made up of songs barely one minute long. It's an interesting ride, I kept thinking individual tracks were making drastic transitions (which they do) but most of the time it turned out to be a smooth transition into another track.
